Ruth E. Johnson, 91, a former Republic resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans, where she had been a resident for the past four years.
Ruth was born on January 21, 1930 in Iron River, MI, to the late Arthur and Betty (Ahola) Windahl and was raised in Republic. She graduated from Republic High School in 1948.
Ruth married Harry Johnson Jr. on July 2, 1949 and together they raised three daughters.
Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Colleen (Larry) Webb of East China, MI, Luann (Stephen) Dagenais of Marquette and Sherry (Terry) Polkki of Ishpeming; grandchildren, Nicole (Bryon) Osterland of Brussels, Belgium, Joseph (Jill Saucier) Webb of Chicago, Stefanie (Gary) Little of Marquette, Jessica (Jordon) Riffle of Marquette, Michael (Jennifer) Polkki of National Mine and Thomas (Kristin) Polkki of Kaukauna, WI; great-grandchildren, Nash, Beau, Dane and Bryn Little, Cameron Riffle and Hailey, John and Jordy Polkki; her sister, Anna Lou Brewer of Grand Ridge, FL; as well as many nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. Besides her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, on January 2, 2021 and her brothers.
Ruth’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to the D.J. Jacobetti Veteran’s Home for the care and support they gave Ruth. The family would also like to thank her dear friend and roommate for the companionship they shared at the facility.
Per Ruth’s wishes, cremation will take place and no services will be held. Interment will be in the Republic Cemetery with a private family gathering.
