November 7, 1951 ~ March 26, 2022 (age 70) 70 Years Old

JACQUELINE RIPP Obituary

Jacqueline Ann “Jackie” Ripp, 70, of Ishpeming, passed from this earthly realm on March 26, 2022 at her home.

Jackie was born in Detroit, MI in 1951 to Myron J. and Mary (Howe) Ripp.  She was the wild child that all parents worry about, as her lack of fear and sense of adventure led her into exciting escapades on playground equipment, neighborhood games and her bike.

Although born a city girl, after graduating from Cooley High School in 1969 she moved north to attend Michigan Technological University, and fell in love with the Upper Peninsula and its people.  Life, fate and an apartment fire intervened and forced her back downstate, and it was another 40 years before she was able to realize her dream of returning to the U.P., where she happily resided for the last five years.

Jackie’s 40 years in Detroit encompassed waitressing and bartending jobs, and finally led to a steady career with Home Depot in Commerce, where she excelled (unofficially) at detecting and preventing fraud and shoplifting.  This often provided her with hilarious stories to entertain family and friends.  A loyal Detroit Tiger fan, she followed the team in good times and bad.  In her younger years she was an ace pool player, and later a stalwart of her bowling league team, until arthritis got in her way.

Jackie loved talking to people, and cherished family get-togethers where she could catch up on everyone’s lives, young and old.  Her life journey followed a sometimes haphazard path, but certain things were constant – her bright spirit, her loyalty and generosity, her love and interest in her extended family, her fierce sense of right and wrong, her kind heart, her facility with numbers, and last but not least, her devotion to her feline companions.

Jackie is survived by her sister, Toni Eppensteiner; nephew, Eric (Zosia) Eppensteiner; great-nephew, Max; and several cousins.  She was preceded in death by her mother, whom she lovingly cared for during the last four years of her life, and her father.

Per Jackie’s wishes, there will be no services at this time.  A small memorial service for family will take place in the summer.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial gift, please consider the U.P. Animal Welfare Shelter, P.O. Box 968, Marquette, MI 49855.
