BESSIE PENNOCK

Bessie Pennock, 96, of L’Anse, went home to the Lord Wednesday evening, January 22, 2020 at Bayside Village in L’Anse. 

She was born November 12, 1923 in Weeksbury, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Marion and Lucy (Wells) Collins.  Her family moved to L’Anse when she was a child and she was a 1941 graduate of L’Anse High School.

Bessie married Gail Dewey Pennock on September 1, 1941 and together raised 7 children.

The couple owned and operated the Nite Owl restaurant for a number of years.

She was a talented cook, baker and artist/painter and passed those talents on to her children & grandchildren.

She was a member of the L’Anse Baptist Church, their ladies missionary group and had taught Sunday school.

Bessie will be remembered by her family for her strength, strong work ethic and enduring faith.

She is survived by a daughter, Jenny (Dan) Soper of Gaylord, MI; sons, Jerry (Joanne) Pennock of Pequaming, Tracy (Kathy) Pennock of Suprise, AZ and Steve (Carol) Pennock of Apache Junction, AZ; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Susan Pennock, Pamela Kraft and Cindy Harden; grandson, Michael Kraft; great-grandson, Sean Lake; siblings, Loretta, Pauline, Homer, Louise, Bonnie, Glenna, Marion, Dorothy and Robert.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020 at 11 am at the L’Anse Baptist Church with Pastor Gerald Bishop officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of the service in the church.  A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall.  Interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.
