June N. (Nelson) Saari

June Noreen Saari, age 89, of Ishpeming, MI, went to be with the Lord on June 4, 2017, while in the loving care of her family and the staff of Cherryvale Place, in Rockford, IL.

June was born January 14, 1928 to Nels and Lena Nelson.  She graduated from National Mine School in 1945.  She married Elmer Saari on February 5, 1949 and they were married for 53 years.

June was a member of Good News Assembly (now Northiron Church) most of her life.  She was very active there in teaching Sunday School, leading Bible Studies, involved in women’s ministries and housing missionaries.  She had a heart for the lost and always reached out to those around her.  June had the gift of hospitality and opened her home to so many through the years.  She was also involved in Christian Women’s Club and enjoyed meeting and housing the speakers that would come through.

June was an amazing mother, homemaker and help-mate to Elmer as his job took them to many different parts of the country.  She enjoyed this part of her life and met so many new friends in their travels.  Ishpeming was home, though, and that is where they retired.  She loved her house on Deer Lake Avenue.

June is survived by 6 children:  Richard (Cathy) Saari, Carol (Bob) Taylor, Stephen (Lynn) Saari, David Saari, Kathy (David) Andreasen, and Chris (Rod) Scheer.  She has 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by sisters, Barbara Behm and Virginia Shepherd, and brothers, Dudley Nelson and Bruce Nelson, and numerous nieces and nephews.  June was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer, her brother, Jack Nelson, and sisters, Bernice James, and Irene James.

June’s family will greet relatives and friends at Northiron Church in Ishpeming from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017.  The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Richard Saari officiating.  A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.  Interment will then follow at Northland Chapel in Negaunee, MI.
