GEORGE L. SANTAMORE

George Lloyd Santamore, 68, of Ishpeming, died Tuesday afternoon, July 24, 2018 at UP Health System-Marquette.         

He was born in Marquette on November 1, 1949, a son of the late Raymond and Millie (Morin) Santamore.  He was a 1968 graduate of Marquette High School and was a lifelong area resident.

Following high school, George joined the US Navy and served two tours in Vietnam.  He also served in the National Guard.

On May 30, 1973 he married Ruth Windsand in Marquette.

George was employed with CCI, first working underground at Mather B, then transferring to the Tilden and Empire.  He retired in 2007 after 25 ½ years.

His interests included hunting and just being in the woods.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Ishpeming; daughter, Tracie Dowrick of Ishpeming; grandchildren, Jesse Santamore of Ishpeming, Megan Dowrick and boyfriend, Joe Gransinger of Minnesota, Dylan Dowrick and fiancé, Alexa Bartle of Marquette, Cole Dowrick of Ishpeming; great-grandson, Mason Dowrick of Marquette; brothers, Ron (Gail) Santamore of Florida and Bill (Chris) Santamore of Ishpeming; and aunts, Dorothy Rivord, and Ina Mae Baldwin and Annabelle (Tom) Meyers.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Bridget Santamore.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 from 11 am to 1 pm at Canale & Pennock Funeral Service in Ishpeming.  A memorial service will be held at 1 pm in the funeral home with a luncheon to follow at the Ely Township Hall.  Military Honors will be provided by the Vietnam Veterans of America Negaunee Chapter.
