THOR O. TORNBERG

Thor O. Tornberg, 72, of Ishpeming, died Friday morning, September 22, 2023, at his home, following an illness. 

He was born December 7, 1950, in Ishpeming, a son of the late John and Effie (Kangas) Tornberg.  He was a 1969 graduate of Ishpeming High School and a lifelong area resident.

Thor married Susan Junttila in Ishpeming on September 13, 1969.

He was employed as a welder and a roofer for several construction companies over the years.  His interests included hunting, fishing, restoring classic cars, but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.   

Thor is survived by his wife, Susan Tornberg of Ishpeming; children, Christine Tornberg of Ishpeming, Debbie Tornberg of Gwinn, John (Catherine) Tornberg of St. Clair, MI and David (Kerry) Tornberg of Negaunee; 9 grandchildren, Ron, Alexsis, Jordan, Jaimie, Meghan, Jake, Taylor, Jillian and Olivia; great-grandchildren, Jaicyon and Alaysia; and several nieces & nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Rita Saari, Jean Isaacson, John Tornberg, his infant brother and his nephew Randy Peterson.

A private graveside service will be held in the Humboldt Cemetery at a date to be determined in the spring of 2024 which will be followed by a celebration of life.
